Today, winners receive a prestigious WSOP bracelet, as well as a substantial cash prize, which is determined based upon the buy-in amounts, as well as the number of entrants. The main-event is a $10,000 no-limit Texas Holdem game, which many consider to be the most popular and nerve-wracking game in poker history.

The winner was John Cynn, who, when heads up with Tony Miles, defeated him and scooped an astonishing $8.8 Million. Cynn played an entire 10 days of poker games, and through sheer steely determination, he was able to turn his $10,000 buy-in amount into one of the biggest prizes in the history of the tournament. What’s even remarkable is the fact that he overcame the odds and defeated 7,874 other players. The battle between the two went on for 10 ½ hours and was considered by many to be one of the most exciting heads-up battles in poker game history.
