In the year 2019, every enthusiastic Poker player was looking forward to the 2019 World Series of Poker (WSOP). This main event gathered thousands of professional Poker players who wanted to participate in the WSOP Main Event. Las Vegas probably hasn’t seen a tournament like this before! And no wonder, WSOP was celebrating its 50th anniversary.

To be the champion of such a prestigious tournament is one of the greatest honour in the gambling world. That is why the winner of WSOP has a special place in the history of Poker. This time, the player who made history in the Main Event is Hossein Ensan. If you have not heard about Hossein, here are some interesting facts about him who won a whopping $10 million cash prize and the coveted bracelet.

Hossein Ensan was born in Iran on May 22, 1964. He moved to Germany at the age of 25, which has been his home country ever since. Although he started playing Poker at the age of 18, in his early days, he started playing mixed game variants. He began to get serious in the game since 2012. Hossein Ensan's winning record is not that big, but it is imposing for a player who just recently started his Poker career.

Hossein Ensan’s Achievements:

In August 2014 Hossein won the senior event at the European Poker Tour (EPT) in Barcelona festival. A week later out of 1,496 players he finished in the third place scooping for €6,52,000 at the final table in 2014.

This was just the onset of Ensan's rise up in the Poker tournament ranks. At the EPT 11 Main Event in Malta 2015, he added another six-figure cash, finishing with sixth place netting him €153,700.

Since Hossein was just short of winning his first EPT title, he decided to give it another shot at the €5,300 EPT Prague Main Event in 2015 and taking down the tournament for €7,54,000 making it his most significant career score.

In 2017, he became a winner in a World Series of Poker (WSOP) circuit ring in Rozvadov, Czech Republic, which netted him €184,812 and also the first WSOPC ring of his career. Now, Hossein is on the biggest stage of Poker and wanted to add a WSOP bracelet in his Poker resume. Overall, he took part in 36 tournaments before his historic win in 2019.

The WSOP Tournament 2019

The 50th WSOP tournament 2019 was held at Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino. With 8,569 players participating in this tournament this makes the second biggest event since 2006. Each player started the game with 60,000 chips.

The Iranian born player with his 100,000,000 chips was ahead of everyone else. It was only him and Kevin Maahs dominating the game. As the Main Event wound down, Hossein maintained his hold on the chip lead throughout. Finally, the battle was between Ensan (326,800,000 chips), Alex Livingston (120,400,000 chips) and Dario Sammartino (67,600,000 chips). If Ensan was expecting an easy walk to the title, he did not get his wish.

From the beginning, Livingstone began to close the gap between himself and Sammartino by taking pots. Over the next few hours, he narrowed the gap with Sammartino and strengthened his position by swiftly going over 100,000,000 chips again. Although, the chances to win for Livingston were quite good, but Sammartino managed to seize the gap with Hossein.

The 2019 WSOP Champion was exceptional, as the tournament was a heads-up finale against Sammartino and Hossein Ensan. Both famous German former EPT star and an Italian high roller had 279,800,000 and 235,000 chips respectively. The battle between both the players lasted for 4 hours until the final hand.

Hossein had Pocket Kings, and Sammartino flopped a flush draw. He decided to launch into aggressive semi-bluff, Sammartino shoved all-in for 14,000,000 over the top of 33,000,000 chips from Ensan who rapidly made a call. When the river came, Sammartino had no chance to win the game, and Hossein Ensan took the WSOP tournament 2019 title.

At the age of 55, Hossein Ensan became the second oldest WSOP since 1999, whereas Noel Furlong won the World Champion at the age of 62. This is a positive sign for the game, as for 11 years it has been dominated by 26 years old gamblers. It shows that irrespective of age everyone can become a champion.
