Playing a poker game is one of the most enjoyable ways to spend your free time. Playing online poker can be especially fun when you simply want to kick back and relax in the comfort of your own home.

In order to master the game however, it is worth familiarizing yourself with the rules and the lingo. To help make things easier, this handy poker guide will cover a number of badass poker terms every poker game player should know. Take a look and try to remember as many as you can.

Burn – When you are playing a poker game, if you hear players referring to the burn, this is simply an action whereby the top card is discarded in each round, before betting can commence. The idea behind this is basically to ensure that players have no idea which card will be revealed, just in case the top card has a distinguishing mark, which could give it away for future play. Players have no idea which card is underneath the burn. It sounds extreme, but poker is a game that is NOT taken lightly, especially when there are millions of dollars at stake.

Backdoor – This term is used when you hit your needed cards on the Turn and the River to complete your hand. For example, if there's one Spade on the board and you have two as your hole cards and two more spades show up on the Turn and River, you've hit a "Backdoor" Flush.

Straddle – This is a term used to describe an optional blind bet, which is made by the player sitting one to the left of the big blind. The straddle however, will be equal to twice the amount of the big blind. It is pretty-much a raise and is a useful way of getting more money into the pot. This is because players that want to play will be forced to match the straddle, or raise it, otherwise they’re out before they even begin. The straddler can also re-raise if they wish, as they will act last, just before the flop.

Bluff – Bluffing is a very important aspect of any online poker game, or any game of poker in general for that matter. If you wish to play poker online and become the best player you can be, you need to work on your bluffing. To bluff an opponent, you will basically raise, or bet, despite the fact that you are holding what you believe to be a weak card. Basically, you are trying to trick your opponents into thinking you have a stronger card than you have got, in the hopes that they fold with their stronger hand. If they call your bluff however, that’s when things won’t look good for you.

Nuts- The best possible hand that one can have at a given moment.
