Texas Holdem is the most common version of poker played in many casinos. This poker game is played on single table with two to ten players whose agenda is to win as many chips as they can, one pot at a time. A pot is won by having the best hand or pushing all the other players into folding before the showdown.

Some of the rules that apply to a Texas Holdem poker game include the pre-flop, the flop, the turn, the river, the showdown and the hands. The pre-flop round is the point where all the players receive their hole cards. The players then decide what action to take with their cards one at a time. The player on the left of the big blind starts this round with the option to fold, call or raise. Once they take their action, the other players also make their moves clockwise. Each player also has the option to call the bet of the player to their right, fold or raise.

The flop comes once the pre-flop betting ends. This is done by dealing the top most card on the deck facedown, making it the burn card, then dealing three cards face up in the middle of the table. The players then make any of their 3 possible moves in the same order as the pre-flop round. After betting on the flop round, the dealer deals another card face down and another face up in a move called the burn and turn. A third round of betting follows this step. The size of the bet in this round and the final round is doubled.

After the third betting round, depending on how many players have not folded, the river is dealt. Here too, a single card is dealt face down then another face up. This is the last street and no further cards are dealt afterwards. The betting round is also done the same way it was done on the turn. When the betting is completed, the players then enter into the showdown round where the best hand wins the pot. The player who bet on the river is the first player to show their hand ideally though anyone who wants to show their hand first is allowed. A player that has a losing hand can either show their hand or just concede the pot. In case no one placed a bet, the first player to the left of the dealer reveals their hand first followed by the others clockwise.

The best Texas Holdem poker hands are made using any combination of two cards and the five community cards on the table. A flush wins over a straight and three of a kind will beat two of a kind. Suits are not viable in evaluating the strength of a hand and in case all the remaining players have no pair or a stronger card, the winning hand is the one with the highest valued single card. Poker hands are also required to only have 5 hands to assess the winning hand.

The idea of playing poker is to win and this applies to everyone on the table. Chances are that your opponents are trying to make you fold and increase their winning chances. There is no explicit rule preventing any player form forcing another player’s hand and each layer makes moves that are beneficial to them. Raising the bet in the betting rounds is an indicator that a player is in a possible winning position while folding means the player is at a disadvantage and chooses to throw their hand. Calling is also a play from a point of possible advantage. Players with the best hands will want to raise the stakes and eliminate those with weaker hands to increase their chances of winning.
