There have been many books over the years that cover poker game strategies and everything else about poker. It’s these card games books, that beginners and even advanced level players use to improve their strategy and understanding of poker online as well as offline. That being said, like many books in the industry, some of them don’t age well. Furthermore each player has particular weak spots in their game as others don’t. Below is a small list of books that can expand your understanding of the poker game and help in creating strategies that will assist you.

Any title by Lou Krieger

Even though Krieger passed away a few years ago, he left behind a wealth of knowledge. Most of that knowledge is focusing on how one can excel in low- to mid-stakes cash games. There are eight books in total and out of the eight none of them in particular stands out. Regardless if you see his name on the book, you know it’s going to be a good one.

Elements of Poker by Tommy Angelo

Written in 2007, the information presented in the book definitely stretches your thinking and understanding of the poker game, poker online, or card games in general. In the book, Angelo looks at poker from 144 completely different angles. That alone is enough to catch players interest and it’s also a fun read as well.

The Psychology of Poker by Dr. Alan N. Schoonmaker

A retired psychologist who spends his time in low-stakes games in Las Vegas, his book is one that many poker game players recommend. A poker game is truly a battle of the minds at times so there truly is no better field to grasp and speak about poker in such depth. One of Dr. Schoonmaker’s greatest qualities is the fact that he listens. He talks, but when poker is brought up, he listens. It’s through these practices as a psychiatrist and then playing at the poker tables at night did he put together this book. He also released another book in 2007 called Your Worst Poker Enemy: Mastering the Mental Game, which is also an excellent read.

Poker Essays by Mason Malmuth

The name says it all on what this book actually is - a collection of musings or writings by one of the poker game’s greatest mind. Even though this book is dated (1996), Malmuth talks about the future of the game, improvements to card room management, as well as tips on advancing in poker. You might think it’s crazy, however surprisingly enough the tips Malmuth predicted over 20 years ago are still relevant.

The Theory of Poker by David Sklansky

The last book that makes our list is a book that serves more as a strategic dictionary than anything else. Definitely not something you would casually read for the sake of card games. That being said if you are looking for advancement in poker online or a poker game out in the real world, this strategy book is full of strategies. It also covers the basic fundamental strategies too. For those who are looking to take poker seriously, this book is a must to be read.
